Scenario: Your not cabled for ethernet or not easily cabled, you have limited wireless coverage in certain areas, and want much greater coverage.
Easy:- Use Wireless Access Points and Home Plugs.
It's simple technology that uses the electricity (Mains supply) for connecting to ethernet. It's ideal for multi floor homes and offices. Simply plug in a Home Plug in the Mains Socket next to the ADSL/Router/Firewall/Hub. Connect an Ethernet cable from the Home Plug to one of the ADSL/Router/Firewall/Hub LAN ports.
Then go to the area you require wireless coverage, plug in a Home Plug into the Mains Socket and connect an ethernet cable from the Home Plug into a Wireless Access Point. Naturally you must configure the wireless access point for your network, and Bingo! You just linked the wireless access point to the ADSL/Router/Firewall LAN port using your ring main/electric. This saved you running an ethernet cable from the ADSL/Router/Firewall/Hub. to the Access Point.
Where can you utilise this solution?
Listed buildings, multi floor homes, multi floor offices... even the garden
shed if it's connected to the electricity of the house!
The diagram below shows Home Plugs being used to link PC's together. The same method to link Wireless Access Points applies, allowing you to share your broadband through the whole building over wireless too!
